My day started at midnight when I had the 12:00- 4:00 watch. In full honesty, nothing much happened besides conversing with my watch team. We spoke of our plans for the future, places we need to visit when we visit one another, and what’s going on with our families. That’s right, I’ve learned quite a bit about the people reading these blogs. We came across a ship at one point in the watch, which was quite exciting. And even though we were having a good time, we were more than ready to be relieved of our watch so that we could go to sleep. The next day started, for me, with waking up people at 11:30 for lunch, which was fried rice. The fried rice was good. Thank you, Annie, Dylan, and Tia! Our captain, Tom, surprised us after lunch. He told us that we would be stopping the boat and that we could all go for a swim!!! It was so much fun.
Many of us jumped into the water from the front of the boat, also known as the bowsprit, and some of us stayed on deck tanning. The water, at first, was cold. However, our bodies acclimated to the temperature quite well. The visibility of the water was 33 meters which was amazing because you would look down and just see your friend’s legs dangling over nothingness. Many of us tried front flips and back flips of the bow sprit for the first time, myself included, which caused an adrenaline rush and also kept us warm in the water. After swimming around in the big ocean blue, many of us came up on deck and sunbathed, both to dry off and just because the weather was beautiful. After the ocean swim we had, we had two classes to attend.
We took a VHF test, and Nat and Laura presented their leadership presentation. All I have to say about the VHF test we took is… WE ARE ALL VHF CERTIFIED!!!!! It was such a relief not to have to worry about that test anymore. As for Nat and Laura, they absolutely killed the presentation. Even though we had a few tech difficulties, they dealt with them like champs. After classes were done, many people took naps or helped make dinner. I went to the cockpit and painted many of my fellow crew members’ nails, which I found super relaxing and enjoyable. For dinner, we had tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. They were the bomb! As skipper, I got to ask the squeeze question; it turned out to be much more controversial than I was intending. I asked whether or not people wear their shoes in the house. Unfortunately, the majority said they did. This was an absolute shock to me, and I honestly don’t know if I will ever recover from it. However, the day moved faster than usual. We had a time change. Since time moved forward one hour, my watch team was back on watch much sooner than we thought we would be. However, the 8-12 watch was super fun. We played improv games and met Nat’s friend Patricia which was amazing! Overall the day we super successful and definitely one your kids/friends/besties/lovers should tell you about!
