Today my watch group had the 12 to 4 am watch. We saw two shipping containers heading for the east coast of the United States and wanted to call them on the VHF to see if they had some extra Nutella for us (we have ate through our whole supply far too fast.) It rained a little bit toward the end of our watch but it was not too uncomfortable. Watch team one had a foggy and wet sunrise but on the positive side of things, they also had some wind fill in! After a couple days on engine power, it felt nice to finally have some wind. Even though the engine was still running, we were able to get extra speed out of the sails. As we get closer to shore, I cannot help but imagine the amazing food that will be waiting for us. Today we were all talking about how the first thing we want to do when we arrive is eat ice cream.
Greyson also wants you all to know he learned today that red velvet cake is just dyed chocolate cake. Lunch was a big hit. Avery, Rooke and Emily made spaghetti with meat sauce and it was the second time we have had beef while under way. To switch things up, instead of having two classes today we just had an extra long seamanship class to work on our charting skills for our nav master exam coming up. Before dinner, Jack, Zac and Alex were very passionately playing smash bros while our chefs were cooking. Dinner was supposed to be jerk chicken wings and while we did have chicken wings, I am almost positive that they were not jerk chicken. They were far too spicy for some people and Hays even went running to get more rice and water to help with the spice. As things are winding down on the boat, a slight drizzle has started. We still have a couple of hours of daylight left but the overcast sky and rain makes it feel later than it is. Hopefully any rain will be finished with, or won’t start until after, my 8-12 watch. This morning my watch group had good luck and I hope it lasts into tonight. Everyone not on watch is enjoying a movie night watching Pirates of the Caribbean!
