Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda

The view from Vela this morning was breathtaking as the sun peaked over Savannah Bay. It is the day many have been waiting their entire lives for the start of open water diving! We split into two separate groups based on whether people had diving certifications or not. The yet-to-be scuba certified had classes in the morning where they learned the caveats and rules of diving by watching PADI training videos. Riveting stuff! During this time, the certified divers went off to enjoy a dive with the many sea creatures inhabiting the coral reefs. In the afternoon, the non-certified divers took their first breaths underwater! So cool! After the diving, the students went back to the ship to enjoy a delicious soup meal. Overall, the day was filled with learning and cheerful spirits, which made the time pass by.

With instructors to dive in different areas and enjoy the variety of sea creatures inhabiting the coral reefs. After that, they went out into the amazing tropical waters to learn scuba. As one student quoted, “it’s the best classroom ever.” After spending a few hours in the sun and enjoying the tropical marine life, the students went back to the ship to enjoy a delicious soup dinner. Overall, the day was filled with learning and cheerful spirits, which made the time fly by.
