Hi everyone,
Today started off with a 7 AM wake-up to All-Star by Smash Mouth (Shrek). We then gathered in the cockpit to eat our wonderful breakfast: baked oatmeal muffins with frozen fruit and lots of Nutella and peanut butter. The open water diving students got their diving kits ready for their second-to-last certification dive. And the last cert dive for Henry and Harrison, who are now certified divers! Everyone else back on the boat worked to prepare the boat for passage: taking off sail covers, attaching halyards, and putting all scuba gear away. After boat prep we got free time on the boat to play music, do laundry, and hang out.
The divers came back to the boat right in time for lunch, which was quesadillas with chicken and corn salad. The dives all went really well, and we saw some pretty cool things! After lunch, we finished the final boat prep tasks, and some of us went for a swim before classes began. Our first class of the day was oceanography with Brooke. We went over why oceanography is important, historical research, and figures, and ended with layers of the ocean floor. We then moved on to seamanship or nautical science with Claire and Sam. We talked about parts of the boat, wind directions, directional language, and different types of safety gear. After class, we had about an hour of personal time; except for the open water course, we had to take our final exam! Spoiler alert: we all passed! For dinner, we had beef and rice with chips and salsa on the side. Everyone is now cleaning and doing their after-dinner jobs. After jobs are done, we are free for the night to do as we please, play music on deck, and journal. Today was a great day, and I hope you all had a great day too!
