Hola! hello from shelter bay, Panama 🙂 Our day started very early, with watches beginning at 8 pm the night before. up first was watch team 3 (Harry, Maya, Harrison, James, and Morgan), where Maya made delicious Snickerdoodle cookies for everyone. My first time trying snickerdoodle anything and they did NOT disappoint, they were AMAZING. Next, watch team 1 had the 12-4 am (Paloma, Graham, Henry, Morgan, and Jake) and did some sail handling, taking all the sails back down. my watch team 2 (Jay, Maisy, Brooks, Maya W., and I) had the 4-8 am as we traveled into Shelter Bay and docked the boat up, spotting huge container ships on the way in. After we docked the boat, we were pleasantly surprised with a very familiar face. LIAM IS BACK!! It is so great to have him; he was missed a ton, and now we have our full 16 again. full house, woooooo.
We then put the boat to bed, got sail covers, and put up a mega tarp (my fav). Then bacon mac and cheese for lunch, made by the talented Jay and his sous chefs Claire and Brooke. A banger of a meal. After lunch, we went straight into class and had a marine bio lecture on worms and mollusks given by Ben, and then a seamanship navigation class (Harrisons favorite). We learned about figuring out ETAs only using charts. It was very cool. Then we had some free time so a few of us went to the dock restaurant and got some ice creams. We then came back for dinner which was burrito bowls!! Another great meal by the great team of chefs. This was followed by squeeze and then clean upanother amazing day aboard Vela. I cant believe this is my everyday life right now. I am so grateful for everyone onboard and all the staff. I couldnt have asked for better people here.
We now sit in anticipation, waiting for the all-clear so we can start heading through the Panama Canal!!! Sooo cool, Im so excited!!! until next time
sending all my love to my family!! Especially Jasper. I miss u all so much xx
