Today, we were all awoken by the lovely sound of an impromptu fire alarm. No worries; it was just yummy blueberry pancakes! After breakfast, we had a lecture on Oceanography where we went more in-depth on the topic of salinity and ions in saltwater. After that, we did a mini passage prep and moved to an island surrounded by mangroves. During our passage, we spent some time preparing menus for the upcoming passages. Claire will be provisioning 2,000+ meals in Panama (So happy I don’t have that job, RIP Claire). Once we arrived, we went in groups of ten to do a mangrove lab. We snorkeled around them to get a look at their roots and what was going on beneath the surface. So many cool sillas were chilling, and many baby fish as it is a nursery habitat. As Sam would say, science is so cool! It was a highlight of the day for sure, especially because we got towed back on a line behind the dinghy. We lost Mike…twice…but we got him back, and he is on the boat now! After that, we did yet another passage prep and got ready for our trip to Panama. While underway, we had a delicious pizza made by Makenna, and now we are doing a clean-up. A good chunk of us will be up all night writing our literature reviews for oceanography, so wish us procrastinators luck…we’ll need it.
