Hello family, friends, distant relatives, and whoever else may be reading this. Today was officially our last day waking up with the view of the beautiful island of St Lucia, and I think the whole crew can agree that we will miss it. We are currently underway to Dominica where new sights await us. I am particularly eager to go to the Boiling Lake hike I’ve heard so much about.
Today kicked off with Stefie poking me in the arm at 6:57 with a “Eulalie your skipper today, you have to wake everyone up” and then I -hold on…. we are currently hitting 9.4KTS an hour, entirely on sail power, which is unheard of for this boat. Like we are BOOKING it…-
… anyway… so I woke up with the news that I was skipper and had to wake everyone up. Then I… Woke everyone up. Breakfast was served on time and we were about ready to start the day. It Started with An Oceanography lecture, where we learned about erosion and deposition, beach barriers, and the longshore current. Fun fact- there is a sand crisis, and because sand is so hard to find currently (us humans love to put beaches where they do not belong and tear down our natural barriers like mangroves and seagrasses…) that there is a whole black market and mafia on sand trade due to its high demand, and troubles importing it.
After class, we got anchors up, and motored over the fuel dock, where we went over our Emergency First Responder Exams, and then swiftly ate lunch. We ate chicken gyros and some very tasty potatoes! Lunch was finished and we were off! We had a huge argument over which of the three watch teams wanted the first 4-hour shift, which I had no say in due to my state (I got very seasick and I basically was hanging over the caprail for half an hour lol.) Then I basically knocked out until dinner, however, I heard I missed a very beautiful sunset, where the ocean was purple, and orange filled the sky. I am exhausted and want to catch up on some sleep before my midnight-4am watch, so I’ll leave you all until next time!!
