AHOY!!!! Today was super awesome. I started by waking everyone up (which may have been less awesome), but we had a great breakfast and then got SHORE TIME !! I got to go to English Harbor with my new friends, and we climbed up to this super cool fort where the views were great, and there was this old cannon that was really cool. While we were up there, we got to see a group finish their 59-day rowing journey from Spain all the way across the Atlantic in a tiny boat. I cant even imagine how hard that must be; Im grateful to be on Vela. After getting smoothies, we came back to the boat for lunch, then left in the afternoon to do more confined diving for my certification. After the dive, I took an ocean shower, and we ate dinner with AMAZING NAAN. All credits go to Morgan G, the breadmaker; I will seriously be thinking about this meal for the rest of my journey. Were currently anchored, but I cant wait to finally set sail.
Its definitely an adjustment living on a boat and sharing a space with 21 other people, but I honestly think the rocking has helped me fall asleep (even if it gives me strange dreams sometimes ). There are definitely tough parts about living here, and Im scared to be a chef, but there are also parts that are fun and make everything worth it. All the people on the boat are awesome and I cant wait to get to know them better, I miss everyone from home too though. Every day here feels like an adventure, and I am excited for the next 86 days!!!
Miss you, Mom, I hope you know Im thinking of you always and give the cats big snuggles for me, ok? To all my friends, family, and anyone else reading this, I love you guys and cant wait to tell you all about my journey when I get back! 😀
