Our second morning waking up in the lagoon! Some woke up earlier than others to practice rescue skills before breakfast, while everyone else got up to enjoy a breakfast of Swedish pancakes. Pancakes on a dive day was a controversial choice, but Mac stuck by his decisions. The pancakes did look suspiciously like crepes, but none of the chefs could tell us the difference between a Swedish pancake and a crepe. There may be no way of knowing. They were delicious either way and as soon as clean-up was finished, everyone got ready – either for diving or exploring onshore. Pieter, Sandra, and Makena got back in the water to finish up their rescue exercises, practicing bringing each other to the surface safely and rescuing panicking alter egos claiming to suffer from jellyfish stings and broken hearts. Kelsey and Mac led another group (Mike and Chance) on a tour of a nearby reef and are super close to finishing their DM course. Anna and Courtney were also nearby, working on skills for the advanced course.
We got back to Argo after our dives for a perfectly timed lunch prepared by Penelope and Anna S. Post lunch, everyone was excited to take a quiz in oceanography!! And review for their exam!! Then we had passage prep, run by our new student leadership – Kelsey as skipper and Pieter as chief mate. The sky turned pink as we served up shepherd’s pie for dinner, some people taking theirs to shore in hopes of catching the sunset from the beach. We’re excited to get underway for our last overnight passage tomorrow to Moorea!
