Location: 43 Nautical Miles Northwest of Aruba
After five days at a beautiful docking site in Bonaire, as well as setting sail yesterday, today was our first full day at sea on route to Panama. Getting back into the routine of sailing with our watch teams and having to wake up in the middle of the night after almost a week of a full night’s sleep took a slight toll on the group, but morale was still quite high. It was nice to start the passage off with fairly calm seas and clear blue skies. Hoping to catch some fish, the morning watch team let out the fishing lines behind the boat, however unfortunately there was no luck today. The early afternoon consisted of a couple of lectures on Oceanography and Seamanship, where we learned about the different sediments in the ocean as well as about navigation and charting. The day was also full of sailing, raising different sails, and setting up lines as we sailed downwind just north of the ABC islands and Venezuela. Finishing off the day with a delicious meal during a calm, clear sunset was the perfect ending for a calm, relaxing day.
