Location: Sardinia
Welcome to Sardinia! Today we arrived in beautiful Sardinia after a super chill passage. The day started with Abi and Natalie cheffing at 8 am for lunch! They thought they were doing themselves a favor by getting a super early start, but they turned out to be late anyways. It was still so good! We had a salad with buffalo chicken and homemade ranch. My kinda meal! Right before we devoured our lunch down in the salon because it was pouring rain, we anchored Vela right in front of a cute island. We had to dodge lots of boaters that were driving like maniacs! Those Europeans, man. After lunch, we went over dive tables because it has been forever since we learned how to read those in the BVI. We then took a quiz and a test on it. We then had free time! I enjoyed my free time swimming and reading a book while lying in the sun with Tia, Sage, Sarah, Daniel, and some others. Kayla and Zoe went for a dinghy ride with Tom and Carolyn to scope out some potential dive spots for tomorrow. WE GET TO DIVE TOMORROW WOOOO! Max, Heather, and Calum spent their free time free diving. I saw some people napping on the bow sprits, which is always a good time, while others just napped in their beds which is much needed after a passage. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves this afternoon. It’s really nice to be off schedule for a little while and enjoy some free time. We just had dinner, which was prepared by Natalie, Annie, and Abi. It was chili and cornbread, which is a hit on Vela. It was nice and spicy! Too spicy for Calum and Amanda to handle, but what’s new. Everyone was in high spirits at dinner because we all love to be on anchor! We haven’t been on anchor since the BVI back in June. Also, the anchor means anchor watch! After days and days of 4-hour night watches, an hour and a half of anchor watch is a breeze! I think we’re all excited about it. After we all smacked away, I asked a very important squeeze question: Look to the person to your right and say what movie/tv character makes you think of them. It was really funny to hear everyone’s answers as most people were just roasted so hard. For example, I was given Mater from the Cars movies. Everyone’s answers were so hilarious, and everyone’s appreciations were very full today. It’s really nice to see everyone seem so lighthearted and stress-free, having a good time, especially since our time on Vela is coming to a close soon. I can’t say I haven’t already sobbed multiple times about leaving. Luckily, all of my friends and staff members on here have reassured me that Vela will always be our home, and we will always have each other. It has been an amazing ride this summer, and I couldn’t have asked for better. Vela and all of these weirdos will always hold a very special place in my heart. Anyways, no more being sappy. We are about to watch Grown Ups in the salon after cleanup and prepare for a day of scuba diving tomorrow! Overall, today was amazing. Holding these people tight the next 10 days.
