Location: Atlantic Ocean

Our first full day of passage. It’s official: Argo has set sail with St Helena in her sights. Watch team 1, which consists of Kackie, Sylver, Isaac, Kara, Olympus, Zac, and Dave, were on the 08:0 to 12:00 watch, which is the “work watch”, so we got too busy by flushing our dinghy “Nopes” outboard engine with fresh water, giving the aft deck a good wash down and scrub and polishing all of the woodwork along the cap rail.
Meanwhile, our chef of the day, Nini, and her sous chefs Talia and Zach (when he wasn’t bossing work watch) were getting a right sweat on in the galley cooking up lunch, which was a divine Greek saladthe perfect meal for those with stomachs on the queezier side of things.
After lunch and clean up, the students headed below deck to the salon for afternoon classes. Meg taught oceanography which touched on the origin of our oceans and how they have come to be what they are today. the second class of the day was seamanship with Kackie, where everyone got to grip the station bill and how each watch team would react in any given situation.
Everyone then got to relax after class, well, except Nini and her galley crew. They got busy cooking up chicken/tofu pasta with capers! Despite some of the pasta getting mildly singed, how were not quite sure, it was delicious. Then, much to Shane’s, our 2nd mates’ surprise, Ben, Cecily, Nicole, and Daria emerged from the galley with a heavily glazed birthday cake! Everyone then sang happy birthday (i don’t think a single person was in tune…) and just as the last note was sung we devoured the entire thing in record time!
Watch team one then got back behind the helm for the 18:00 to 22:00 watch, unfortunately, despite being known as the sunset and stars watch we were lacking in both. BUT at least it wasn’t anywhere near as foggy as it was the night before, so we had decent visibility and a nice relaxing sail. After four hours of tall tales and sea shanty’s watch team 2 came up to relieve us for a well-deserved night’s sleep. 7 whole hours of it before the next watch!
Signing off from the Atlantic Ocean, several miles off the west coast of Africa.

Until next time,
