Day 3??? of passage! All the days are blending together, as Dave can attest to when we were figuring out this blog post. On this last day of January, my watch team (Kackie, Isaac, Zach, Kara, Olympus, and bonus guest Dave) got woken up bright and early on the 4 am to 8 am watch. Watch team 3 had started the day on the 12 am-4 am and woke us up a little late. well have to get them back for that later. I was quite sleepy, but we all slowly woke up as the day slowly turned light. It was very overcast, so unfortunately no sunrise, another day another time. We passed the time birdwatching (we saw lots of albatross, petrels, and even a gannet), as well as our watch teams favorite, Sea shanty oclock, where we vibe to shanties, courtesy of Isaac, and feel like real sailors. We spent part of the day motor-sailing and rocking in huge 3-meter swells, resulting in some seasickness for many of us, especially when trying to focus on class lectures down below. We learned about marine birds and reptiles from Ben during marine bio, spending some time birdwatching above deck and counting transects. We talked about our childhoods during Nicoles leadership class, which we luckily were able to do above deck. Nicole and her sous chefs cooked up some delicious salad with hummus for lunch and pizzas for dinner! Everyone is slowly adjusting to our new lives of always rocking back and forth, waking up and sleeping at random times, and seeing nothing but open ocean and seabirds upon the horizon. I still havent gotten over the seasickness and constant tiredness, but Im hoping that will come with time. Were learning new ways of doing the dishes, showering, and doing our homework while constantly swinging into walls. Speaking of showers, our ice-cold shower water seems to have been getting a smidge warmer day by day. Controversial opinion, but Im looking forward to getting to the warmer parts of the trip where the water is warm, and we dont have to wear foulies all the time.
