Location: Panama City

The crew awoke to a picturesque scene of birds chirping, capybaras grazing by the waterside, and the sun’s golden rays shining through the clouds. As the morning progressed, we ate some lemon raspberry overnight oats (with strawberries) prepared the night before by our cooks. After breakfast had been served, eaten, and subsequently cleaned up, we all headed down to the saloon for seamanship class with Claire and Sam. We learned how to make dead reckonings and worked on some practice problems of that nature. As we finished class, we had a guest come about, our Panama Canal pilot, whose job was to safely guide us through the second half of the canal. As we headed to the first lock, we rafted to the same boat we had gone through with yesterday. Behind us came a massive cargo ship, the locks closed the lines were secured and the water began to fall. Soon enough we were headed to the second and third lock a further bit away from the first. As we continued our path, a massive grey cluster of clouds seemed to engulf us in an instant, and the rain started. It rained and poured, but we all sang and danced in the rain, awaiting the cargo ship to enter the lock behind us. Soon, the clouds parted, and Panama City appeared as we rounded the bend after going under a massive bridge. We made it to the harbor outside of Panama City and had a wonderful Bolognese while watching the colors dance across the sky. Comically, Paloma had lost a bet two days before, and she had to wear her gumby suit for the entirety of dinner. After dinner concluded, we cleaned up and prepared for whatever surprises tomorrow holds.
