Sup Seamester fam!! It’s Maya Lary back at it again. Let’s get into it, shall we? It’s day 8 on passage, so we’re all getting into the routine pretty well at this point with watch schedules and such. Since we have our night watches, we get to sleep until lunch time unless we’re on the 8-12 am watch, so today we all woke up and enjoyed some chicken, veggies, and couscous for lunch, then we did our clean-up jobs so Vela can be nice and clean before class. After that, we had marine biology, where we did a pretty interesting lecture about the deep sea and all those cool little critters down there. We then took turns as groups doing our practice Nav master exam for seamanship. Claire and Sam did a fantastic job helping us through all the problems, so we’re ready for the real exam. While the last group was doing that, we started to drop the main sail because the wind hadn’t really been on our side today, and Captain Mac decided we should motor-sail for a little while to stay on schedule. We then had a yummy dinner of fried rice made by our chef, Maisy, and her helpers, Jay and Harrison. Now everybody is hanging out in the salon doing some homework after another great day on passage! I can’t believe we only have 28 days left.
Mom and Dad, I’m okay and I love and miss you so much! I can’t wait to talk to you once we get to Nuka Hiva.
