Location: Les Saintes

I started the day by waking everyone up with some nice music. Everyone got up in good spirits, and we had a delicious breakfast of peanut butter and jelly bars with an assortment of fruit and other miscellaneous items (prepared the night before by Paloma; thank you, Paloma.) After that, we were tasked to “put the boat to bed,” which included things such as putting tarps over the sails and putting the dingeys in the water to free up some deck space; it was satisfying work, and we did it quite speedy because everyone did their part. We had our first oceanography class with Brooke and our first actual Marine Biology lecture, both of which went well. Post class, we finally had our phones returned to us, and almost immediately, everyone was up on deck calling friends or loved ones or jamming out to some much-needed tunes. It was wonderful to speak to people who we have missed for the past week and answer the wave of questions that came immediately about our first week. We were then taken to shore in Les Saints and were sent off to explore. The first thing that every single one of us did was get cold water or soda because that’s a luxury that is uncommon at sea. We all stuck together in groups at first, but eventually, people broke off to go do their own exploring. Harry, Brooks, and James decided to hike up the mountain to enjoy the views of the island and the ocean. The rest of us were on the hunt for some tasty French food. We continued enjoying walking on a surface that didn’t rock back and forth until it was time for the chefs to return to the boat to start preparing dinner. When we got back to the boat, the sous chefs, Mogan G and Morgan C, helped head chef Paloma make delicious BBQ chicken sandwiches for dinner, which everyone loved. We enjoyed an amazing sunset together while we ate, did a quick clean up, and now are going back to listening to music together before it’s time for bed.
