Hallo Iedereen!
Talking to you is the Belgian sailor aboard, skipper, blogger, and photographer of the day. Another day has passed on our beautiful trip, which calls for a blog update.
Our first marine bio exam is scheduled for tomorrow. This made our day quite chaotic, as we collectively discovered why Anna (teacher) had suggested to us last week to start studying in time. One student after the other, brave enough to open their notes, turned pale, teared up, fainted, or went anaphylactic (Sam here, no one fainted or went anaphylactic). An arsenal of peanut butter spoons was made, a playlist was put on, and a nice study session took place in our saloon. Like in every other crisis, there was, of course, also the biological flight reaction, as Felipe told me it was time for his 10 A.M. nap. But soon, I discovered that even moments like these are a lot of fun with a great group like this. Together, we made our way through the rhodophyta, cyanobacteria, and archaea and ended up having a lot of fun in doing so.
In the afternoon, we had a lovely marine bio lab. Our captain, Tomer, motored us to a small inhabited island nearby, where Anna gave us a scientific illustration class. Surrounded by crystal blue waters, we learned different techniques to sketch the organisms in front of us (except for Chance, who ended up illustrating a very rare paw patrol crock he found on the beach). This ended in a very relaxing afternoon where everyone was sketching by himself in various places on the little island. When we came back to Argo, we had our jump-in-showers. Jack re-established his title of the diving king, and Penelope showed me her own interpretation of a backflip. It looked special.
After our nice dinner, we all gathered back in the saloon to knock our way through our marine bio notebooks. Even on stressful days like these, I can’t stop feeling lucky to be here with these people.
Note: Dag lieve mama, papa, grootouders, tantes, nonkels, neven, nichten en mijn vele vele lieve vrienden in Gent die ik zo mis! Alles gaat hier super met mij. Ik denk aan jullie en kan niet wachten om bij te praten als ik terug ben.
Greetings
Pieter
