Because we switched job wheels, I am skipper again! The day started with watch team 3 + Emily up at around midnight. Mina was very cold, but Emily was there to keep her company. We got caught in a rainstorm near the end of our shift, which was unfortunate, but luckily, Brady helmed us through it perfectly on course. Alexis was out on bow watch with Andrew, so they got soaked. Because of the rain storm, the engine room bilge filled up with water so Lanie and Macie sucked it out with a shop-vac. However, before they could dump out the water, they accidentally spilled half of the shop-vac’s contents right onto Zac’s bunk. Sorry Zac!

Dylan helmed for 4 hours straight, and Payton plans to tonight. Then, team 2 went on shift from 4 am to 8 am. They had a dance party and baked apple crumble for all, a little sweet treat to keep us going! Afterwards, we watched a beautiful sunrise over the oceanscape and waited until 7:30 to wake up watch team 3. This time, it was Meg’s turn to be woken up by soap falling into her hatch (the floor is so clean now). At 11:30, I got to wake everyone up for lunch. Rooke was very glad that she got to sleep in. The method I used to wake everybody up was banging a ladle against a metal pot while running between cabins. Some people (Maya, Emma, and Sadie) were upset, but everybody was awake. Everybody except Alex, who slept through the whole fiasco. At this point, the day really started. We had some creative pasta for lunch. The recipe called for four cans of coconut milk, but Jack, Avery, and Henry used coconut cream instead, which made it a sweet dessert pasta. During cleanup, Shane, Peyton, Hayes, and Nicole retrieved a ghost fishing net from the sea. We have seen lots of nets and old buoys in the past few days. Zac then grabbed Lizzy and Brig to help him unclog the port aft head and fulfill their headmaster duties. This is our third clogged head in two days. I’ll let Brig tell the story.

“It wasn’t pretty. Zac dragged me from my post-lunch duties with a crazed look in his eyes, and then he led me and Lizzy into the heads and stuffed all 3 of us in the 3 square ft port aft head that reeked of decaying feces. He unscrewed the toilet from the floor realesing the concoction of pee and poo across the floor on which we stood. The sewage hit my feet faster than the stench hit my nostrils, but before I could think to leave while I was semi-clean, he flipped the toilet to reach the underbelly. All the waste in the bowl drenched us once more. Zac fingered throuh the compartments under the toilet to find what obstruction halted the passage of fecal matter through the toilet (this time it wasn’t a tampon, like the last two times) but after he unclogged the toilet we still had to clean the mess that was on the floor and walls of the bathroom. We hosed most of it off, but I (Brig) had to waffle stomp what couldn’t fit down the drain with a glove on my foot. Needless to say, we all showered to get the smell of poop, pee, and sweat off of us.”

After that horror story, we all proceeded with classes. Seamanship was very difficult today because we had to begin memorizing the names of every single line on the boat. We also have to know the names of all of the sails and structural supports. The test is in 5 days, so we have to get our studying in between watching. After that, it was time for leadership. Today we had another presentation by Logan, Henry, and me. We went over the relational leadership model and the knowing-being-doing model for 30 minutes. As an interactive piece, we had Shane teach Maya how to play Super Smash Bros while Nicole taught Lizzy. Shane knows how to play while Nicole does not. Maya obviously won because she had the more knowledgeable leader/teacher. After classes were over, the chefs began making chicken curry and naan for dinner. Finally, we cleaned up, Ella cleaned the salon, and we watched the incredible sunset. Now, watch team 1 is up and will finish out the day on deck.

Later gators :p

P.S. Emma misses her little brother

P.P.S. Emily says Hi, Mom, Dad, and Nathan
p.p.p.s Mina says Hi to her family, and she misses them so much!
