Location: Cape Town, South Africa

The morning started off with our very brave and adventurous sailors taking a trip on land to stretch their legs. A sunrise hike to the top of Lions Head was on the agenda for the morning and our crew devoured the task with ease. The peak of the mountain revealed the vast beauty of South Africa and all she has offered us this last week. Some of us felt bittersweet as it was a reminder that our time in Cape Town is soon coming to an end.

We had a delicious breakfast, courtesy of our 5 star chef Dave, and then we jumped right into Marine Biology class. Ben gave a us a lecture on the rich history of the science and why it is so important to learn about the oceans that hold up our beautiful home Argo. Our lovely Nicole swept us right into our first leadership class where we got the chance to get to know some of our crew a little bit better before we set off for passage. A quick exercise where we discussed what drives us to lead and how our identities shape the leader we are gave a great foundation for the growth we will hopefully build upon during this trip.

After a quick lunch break, Kackie got us more familiar with the emergency procedures on board that help give us peace of mind in our day to day life out at sea. We winded down our rather relaxing day by getting some free time to explore the waterfront and do some personal provisioning for the voyage ahead. Many snacks were bought, many snacks will be eaten!

Throughout our beautiful day we have had an impressive front come into the waterfront area causing absolute roaring winds! The wind was an average of 40kts which is what we sailors call Gale Force Winds. Many hats were almost lost, no casualties so far. Dinner on deck was interesting with such forceful winds but a little wind has not stopped us before and its not about to stop us now. We prepare for our final day in Cape Town by watching a movie and taking advantage of the hot showers on shore before we switch to the fresh Atlantic water that I’m sure will get our attention.
