Location: San Blas
Had a great last watch of our Bonaire to San Blas passage with some 5:30 am sailraising, which is always a great activity to keep everyone awake and just generally fun. As usual, everyone went back to sleep for some much-needed rest; everyone always takes advantage of all the sleep we can get. Motor sailed for most of the day. The wind had died enough to where we needed the extra speed to make it to San Blas before sunset. Post lunch from Jay and Mac everybody helped drop the flying jib and main staysail prepping for our arrival into San Blas. Always fun getting to do sail handling with the whole group instead of just our watch teams. Once the fun was over, everyone gathered in the salon for charting in seamanship and oceanography in the dreaded heat of belowdecks. Once everyone escaped the heat besides the chefs and bread makers, Maya made the best naan of the trip so far. We had a calm last few hours of open ocean before Jay spotted our first land in four nights. Always a great feeling. A pair of dolphins greeted us on our way as we got closer to anchor. After another great dinner from Claire and Harry and the especially good naan, we started putting sail covers and sunshades up to make our anchor boat to bed easier. As we arrived, we were greeted by locals in dugout canoes with bracelets, bandanas, and other trinkets that we could get, a very warm welcome after five days on passage. We dropped anchor in a great flat area, and we finished our boat to bed. Everyone has been calling home to talk to family and friends now, and that was our day arriving in San Blas!
