Hey everyone! Welcome back to Colbies not-skipper skipper blogs (Im actually a stew today)
Im going to start this blog with a quote: Two things in life I cant do right now, scuba and eat grass what am I gonna do? -Aidan during the 0400 to 0800
Watch team three had a lovely photo shoot last night with some wonderful portraits of Charlie and Aidan, specifically (this note was requested to be in the blog, mostly so we could add the photos]
0400-0800 watch: Somehow, we got onto the topic of cows eating grass and how they have four stomachs. Aidan said his cat eats grass, but we had to explain that they do that when they dont feel good. Aidan proceeded to get very disappointed when he couldnt eat grass or scuba dive. Yes. They are definitely related topics and go hand in hand moving on.
I stayed up with watch team one for an hour of their 0800-1200 and yip-yapped with watch team 1. I fear that as they started sail handling, I got very tired (considering I had been up since 0400), and went to nap before lunch. I managed approximately an hour of sleep before being awoken by whatever forces awoke me, so I decided to read my book, No One Abroad (written by a previous SeaMester Student!).
Lunch came around 12, and it was a delicious rice noodle pad thai with tofu #slayed. The king of time came and moved us back an hour too, I think its some Alaska time zone or something Im not sure anymore, I dont even know what day it is or how long weve been at sea. Clothespin war with Rachel and Shane was fabulous other than Shane finding all 7 of them we managed to attach while he was gophing, and Ruby tragically missing a clip thrown to her as I fell down the goph hatch. That was not so great.
Then the staff proceeded to all get injured at the same time. #EFRtraining. Nick got stabbed by Rubys butter knife. Rachel fell in the bilge and split her knee again. Nacho had a heart attack on deck. Charlie fell out of his 3-stack top bunk and broke his back. And Aidan Aidan caused absolute chaos (panicked witness). I tended to Rachels wound and forgot to ask about allergies so I killed her with an aluminum cup whoops. Cason, the skipper, watched Nick probably bleed out because no one held pressure on the wound #RIP. Aidan threw Ruby overboard while Sarah attempted to tackle him solo it went swell. Nacho was given CPR by Avery, but I think he died too, because everyone was really confused about his state of death/breathing, because he had to keep answering questions from others. Charlie really wanted to move, but SkylAr wouldnt let him. They #LockedIn. (Dont worry, all staff are alive and well, no one was harmed in the making of this training session.
After lunch, the last group of people took the NavMaster exams (I believe it was Ruby, Arthur, Avi, student Meg, Sarah, Stella, Aidan, and Nacho). While they NavMastered, I was off watch and read more of my book while watching Gavi stomp on his laundry as if he were stomping wine grapes in Italy oh to be on land
Tragically, you cannot escape the watch cycle, and I was back on with watch team 3 from 1400-1800. Luckily, we were only really on for about an hour before class. I ran a quick boatie at 1455, completing it in record time. Nacho taught us about coastal zones, and a lot of sand was discussed. Once class wrapped up, watch team 3 re-mustered in the cockpit to complete our 1400-1800 watch. SkylAr, Arthur, and Aidan were cheffing up dinner, all while Avi and Ani baked (on the stove) chocolate pancakes (made with cake batter, I think, possibly.. im actually not sure) for Jonass 23rd, wait sorry, 22nd birthday! (Dont worry, everyone, this confusion was dealt with waaaaay back in Antigua when he realized people born in 2004 were not, in fact, turning 23 this year.
Dinner was actually the best breakfast weve had on board. The eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection, the potatoes were incredible, and the dessert pancakes I was speechless. The dairy-gluten free panCAKE was the best part by far, though. Jonas got a giant pancake at his truest age, 23 (#04Baby), and a wonderfully sung Happy Birthday from the crew. And now I will finish this blog so I can get back to my ever-so-suspensful book that I am forced to put down every five minutes (or so it feels)
Thank you again for tuning into our stories and my writing. Until next time (when Im actually skipper or maybe sooner)
-Colbie
