Location: Antigua

It’s the second day on Vela, and we are all learning so much about the boat and each other. Today’s wake-up was at 7 AM, and as skipper, I oversaw getting everybody up on time. We had egg burritos for breakfast, and after that, we jumped straight into getting to know more about the boat and the rules and regulations we are to follow while onboard. Once getting through the second-day of orientation, we got ready to leave the Harbour and anchor out from shore. We first made a pit stop to get fuel for the vessel, and while we were waiting, those of us who were not yet PADI certified began the training videos down in the saloon. Luckily, those of us who already have some level of certification were not required to attend and got to help out and chill on deck. We left with a tank full of fuel and went out to deeper waters. Once anchored, we jumped in the water, swam four laps around the boat, and treaded water for 10 minutes. This was classified as our swim test, and luckily, everyone passed. This was also the first time most of us had had a chance to rinse off and shower, which was very refreshing after long days of travel and being in the hot sun all day. Being on the boat will take some adjustment as I am still getting my sea legs, but overall, I am super excited to learn more about this boat and become better friends with these amazing people.

To Mom, Dad, Silas, Riley, and Kaya,
Love and miss you all!
