Hello all! It’s been such an amazing first full day in the Galapagos, so let’s get into it. On my watch this morning with Olivia, we got to see the most beautiful sunrise, complete with a humongous pelican who stopped by to hang out with us. After breakfast, the students finished boat appreciation and had leadership class; after lunch, we had a marine biology quiz and exam review session. In the afternoon, we were given shore time, and I hung out with Molly for the majority of it. When we got off the water taxi, there were a bunch of sea lions lounging on the dock. They were totally unphased, even though we were walking within two feet of where they were lying. Next, we visited a laundromat, where this super sweet woman helped us with our laundry despite our broken Spanish. Next was shopping. There are so many cute stores along the main street, so (naturally) we had to stop in almost everyone we saw (we’re girls!). We ended up finding a few other crew members in a small caf and had a quick cafecito before doing a little personal provisioning at the local supermarket. By 6:30, we met up with the rest of the group at a restaurant called The Rock. I ate an absolutely delicious poke bowl, found out Courtney could play the guitar (seriously, why did I not know this??), experienced Felipe singing karaoke with some really fun locals, danced with almost everyone on the boat, and finished the night off with a nice ride back to Argo (complete with shark and ray sightings!). All in all, today was such a fun day, and I’m so grateful to be here with this amazing group of people. I hope everyone back home is doing well!!
